Reza played in the Kuwait Football League until an injury ended his playing career at nineteen. He went on to spend fourteen years in sports administration at the Olympic Council of Asia, working in the Director General's office and the Technical Department before becoming Director of Anti-Doping, and served as Assistant to the President of the Kuwait Football Association. Today he brings that experience into coaching and player development at Excel Pro Soccer Academy.
Reza Charim has spent his working life in sport: first as a player in the Kuwait Football League, then for fourteen years inside the organisations that run international competition, and now on the training field with Excel Pro Soccer Academy.
He came up through the Kuwait Football League as a young player. Those years were less about results than about what a professional environment teaches you — discipline, how a team actually functions, and how to read a game. An injury ended his playing career at nineteen, earlier than he had planned.
In 2002 he moved into sports administration, joining the Olympic Council of Asia as Assistant to the Director General and to the Technical Department. He was later promoted to Director of Anti-Doping, and over fourteen years played a part in staging the Asian Games — an event that brings together more than fifteen thousand athletes from forty-five nations. He also served as Assistant to the President of the Kuwait Football Association.
The work took him to more than a hundred and twenty countries and involved working alongside FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation, the Kuwait Football Association, the Kuwait Swimming Federation and World Aquatics. He supported Olympic Games, World Cup and international tournament operations.
For the past several years he has been back where he started, on the grass. He coaches every age group, from children taking their first proper sessions to adult players, and his approach is the same with all of them: every player has something in them that has not come out yet, and the coach's job is to get it out. In practice that means three things at once — technique, understanding of the game, and the resilience to keep going on a bad day.
At Excel Pro Soccer Academy he is Head Coach and Teams Manager, responsible for the academy's teams and for the coaching Excel Pro families see week to week at Ashton Meadows Park.
